Overview

S. K. Agency is a licensed Custom House Agent and freight forwarder, incorporated in 1990 by three partners, Mr. Ketan Desai, Mr. Sanjay Kolge and Mr. Subhash Kolge (retired). We clear and move import and export cargo through Mumbai's air and sea gateways and the two major ports of Gujarat, on our own Custom Broker Licence No. 11/864.

The firm holds Authorised Economic Operator (AEO-LO) status from the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, is ISO 9001:2015 certified, and is a member of the Brihanmumbai Custom Brokers Association. AEO status is the one that changes things for an importer: consignments filed by an AEO certified broker are risk scored more favourably, so they are selected for physical examination less often and released faster.

What We Do

We are unusual in being both the freight forwarder and the licensed customs broker on the same file. Most importers use one firm for the freight and another for the clearance, and the handover between them is where avoidable delay and finger pointing occurs. Our services cover customs clearance, air and ocean freight forwarding, over dimensional cargo and project logistics, ship chartering and broking, FTWZ and bonded warehousing, inland transport, and the regulatory registrations importers need before cargo can clear.

• Fort, Mumbai - registered office, next to the Custom House, covering Mumbai Port.
• Ahmedabad, Gujarat - Gujarat operations and documentation.
• Bhuj-Kutch, Gujarat - Mundra and Kandla ports.

Beyond our own offices we work through established associates at the other major Indian ports and airports, so a consignment landing outside our footprint is still handled against one point of contact.

Sectors We Handle

Capital goods, plant and machinery under Project Import; solar and renewable energy equipment; oil, gas and petrochemical; instruments and appliances requiring BIS or MeitY registration; steel, break bulk and RORO cargo; and perishable and regulated goods needing FSSAI, Plant Quarantine or Animal Quarantine clearance. We also handle Special Valuation Branch registration and case closure for importers buying from related parties, which is specialist work most brokers refer out.

How We Work

Customs work rewards precision more than speed. A tariff heading argued correctly at assessment saves a client more than any amount of chasing afterwards, and a Bill of Entry filed ahead of vessel arrival saves more than either. Most of what we are paid for is invisible when it goes well: the classification that did not get queried, the container that never accrued demurrage, the SVB case that closed. That is the standard we hold ourselves to, and it is why multinationals, Indian corporates and international forwarders have kept using the firm through more than three decades of regulatory change.
